Nose surgery (Rhinoplasty)

Nose surgery (Rhinoplasty) at http://liposuctionatlantacost.com

Rhinoplasty is surgery to reshape the nose. A nose can be enlarged, the bridge made higher, and the shape of the tip enhanced by insertion of a silicone nasal implant. This procedure is usually done under local anaesthesia and involves a small hidden incision within the nostrils. Following the surgery the patient is required to wear adhesive tapes over the nose for a week to maintain the position of the implant and to control swelling.

Other techniques for enhancing the shape of the nose include modifying the underlying bone and cartilage of the nose. This sometimes requires a small external incision across the columella, which is the bridge of tissue between the nostrils. Rhinoplasty is sometimes done together with septoplasty, which is surgery of the nasal septum, the wall of cartilage and bone dividing the air passages. After the surgery, a protective plastic splint may be applied to the nose to help maintain its new shape. This is usually worn for one week after surgery.

Rhinoplasty may be done under either local or general anaesthesia, depending on the extent of the surgery. Hospitalisation is typically not required, and recovery time ranges from 1 to 3 weeks.
